Smoke came back to us June 2nd as an owner surrender. Smoke, formerly Ranger, was originally adopted from SSMN in 2015 and through no fault of his own, is back with us.  You see, his owner became ill and was no longer able to care for him, so he wasn’t exercised the way he needed to be.  We are not certain what his exact weight was when he came back, as it exceeded the scale's maximum at the vet, we estimate he was over 150lbs.  As of August 18th, he weighed in at 116 pounds!  Smoke has a high play drive and enjoys being outside every minute of the day, or as much as possible. He loves his blue horse toy, tennis balls and has not chewed anything he is not supposed to during our foster time. Smoke loves to play with the resident dog, gladly ignores the 4 year old, but does not mind if the 4 year old pays attention to him. Smoke listens well to commands but does need additional training on a leash.  He likes to walk way faster than everyone, even he knows he needs the exercise . His foster does not have a fenced yard and Smoke stays in the yard. He loves to chase bunnies and squirrels, like most shepherds, but Smoke has great recall! He prefers to sleep in the foyer or on the couch to make sure he doesn’t miss out on anything.  He does occasionally sleep next to the bed. Smoke is a very sweet dog, loves belly rubs, and loves to be active.  Smoke would do best in a home with older kids as he doesn’t know how big he is and sometimes knocks the little one down!  

Smoke is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped. He is about 6 years old and would love an active home to keep him fit and trim!  He has a few more pounds to go to get him to his ideal weight, so we are working with the vet on a meal and fitness routine!
