Coyote is a young, neutered, 1 year old German Shepherd-northern breed mix currently being fostered in Anamosa, IA.
Coyote prefers to play and interact with other dogs more that people. He currently lives with a pack of 6 german shepherds and gets along very well. He is very forward and unmannered, yet submissive and pup like in his dog play. While the play can get rough, he has never gotten aggressive and he takes correction well and submissively from the other dogs.
With people he is non aggressive, friendly. yet mouthy. At first he had quite a hard mouth, but after working with him and establishing leadership, his mouth has softened and the mouthiness has improved. He's not a pleaser like a typical GSD, nor a cuddler or snuggler. He does enjoy petting and human affection, but when he's had enough he's out of there in search of the next dog with which to play and romp.
Coyote has a high food drive. He guards food from other dogs yet will allow his people to move his dish. He will share a water dish with other dogs, but will try to push the less dominant one away. That is improving. Coyote lives inside the house, and he does fine however requires close supervision as he tends to carry things off, chew and counter surf. He is for the most part house trained and is crate trained. He will sit for treats and to be let outside. Outside he is quiet, rarely barks, occasionally howls, shows little interest in what's going on past the fence and has shown no interest in escaping either over/under the fence.
