We have a saying here, if a dog in needs picture comes across our feed more than twice, it’s a sign that we need to look into that dog….well, this dog came across our feed, not once, not twice, not even three times! His picture was posted and shared sooo many times! Our hearts were broken, look at that face, look at the sadness in his eyes, begging for love and kindness, but also the look of defeat in his old soul, hurt us to the very cores of ours.
We must act!
But then we got news that he was RESCUED!! Not just rescued, but also ADOPTED! He was transported to his new home, all the while, the new owners were in communication with the rescue that had saved him! (It was not us)
We breathed a huge sigh of relief and moved on.
Then more posts with this sweet guys face! What the heck!!
Well, it seems the person(s) who had adopted him, kept him for a total of 18 days before dropping him off at a shelter. No explanation, no calls to the rescue, nothing.
The only way they even knew he was dumped, was because of his microchip.
…..he had been failed by humans once again…..
Of course they said they would take him back…but he would have to be transported back to Texas.
We couldn’t let that happen! Any dog that escapes Texas should NEVER have to go back there! Yes we say escapes because most don’t make it out of there alive, but that’s a whole different post, for another day.
We reached out to that rescue and asked if they would transfer him to our care, and they said YES!
So off we went to meet the dog that broke our hearts and hurt our souls. The one whose eyes told his story we wished no dog ever had to live. The one we knew we had to save….

We would like to introduce you to Maxwell, we estimate he is between 6-8 years old and as sweet as they come.
The first picture are from the shelter, Maxwell has lived a very hard life, he was losing most of his fur from living outside, poor nutrition and fleas. His ears are damaged by flies and he is heartworm positive.
The fourth picture is the day he was transferred to us!! His smile,
The fifth and sixth pictures are Maxwell in his foster home.
The seventh and eighth pictures are meeting the amazing Dr M and his staff for his first heartworm injection and getting a much needed bath!
The last picture, well, THAT IS WHAT RESCUE IS ALL ABOUT!
THAT is the deep sleep that comes to a rescue dog only once they feel safe and loved! (If you zoom in, you can see his tongue is sticking out!❤️)

Our hearts are full and at peace now, knowing the sad, defeated German Shepherd we first saw is now safe with us!

We’ve got you Maxwell, you are safe now with us and the entire Saving Shepherds of Mn family.
