Gretel is a very sweet and intelligent dog.  She is house trained & crate trained. She prefers to spend her quiet time in her kennel throughout the day & while she sleeps at night.  Her favorite exercise is fetching tennis balls and chasing her foster sibling around (she will actually use her front left paw when running).

Gretel loves her humans and is very eager to know what you are up to. She has been very quick to create bonds with her foster family and is friendly to familiar dogs. She’ll engage in gentle play with her foster brother and is respectful of boundaries when playing. She has great manners - takes no interest in human food, minds the counters, doesn’t climb on furniture etc. She does exhibit some mild anxiety riding in vehicles but it’s very manageable.

She will bark (as expected) at unfamiliar people, dogs or vehicles passing the house, but is good about quieting down when told.   Gretel seems to have a very basic familiarity with obedience training, she understands some commands but is easily distracted when following through – this is nothing that repetition and treats won’t fix though.

Gretel came to us after being hit by a car. Her owner did not have the means or desire to seek appropriate veterinary care and had opted for euthanasia. Gretel did not need extensive medical care - just medication and time. She lost the use of her front left leg after bring struck and though we’ve seen some improvement, still prefers to not use her front left paw. This can result in unintentional, but sometimes forceful, movements when on the leash & around the house. This may be problematic for small children or animals that get startled easily. I do find it best to walk her in a harness as she doesn’t seem to have much experience being on a leash.

Gretel will make a great companion for just about any home!  She is spayed, current on vaccines, heartworm negative and microchipped.
