We have a very special announcement!! We will be taking applications for Dixie our Southern Belle! This little (not so little) girl is special needs but has come so far in the past 3 months! Dixie was diagnosed with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, this is a genetic condition which affects her motor skills. She doesn’t know she’s disabled, so she just does her thing! This girl has such determination, her will to be independent is incredible.
Dixie was born in July last year and was surrendered to Saving Shepherds of Mn so she could get the very best medical attention needed. She has been spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. We had hoped to get her started in physical therapy, unfortunately Covid had other plans. For this reason, we will be offering to pay for a few therapy sessions with her new owner. We also think this will be a great opportunity for Dixie and her new owner to bond!
Due to her condition, she does have some special needs that will need to be provided.
First: Dixie is unable to walk up and down stairs by herself, so she will require single level living.
Second: Dixie slips a lot on solid floors so will either need rugs or carpet.
Third: Dixie is mostly housebroken but she does have the occasional accident.
Fourth: Dixie has been showing some resource guarding that is being worked on, but does need more work!
Dixie is kennel trained, LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to play with toys, loves new people and is very inquisitive! Her resilience knows no bounds!! We are in awe of her ambitious, brave, goofy attitude. She is always smiling and we just love that about her!
